Apple Butter Making Pavilion

Against a backdrop of smoke and apple crates and in the midst of cooking and stirring apple butter, the Anita Rannells Pavilion, located next to Apple Harvest Memorial Hall was dedicated September 30,1994.

The pavilion was built as an auxiliary project to provide shelter from inclement weather during the apple butter making process, was funded in part by Anita’s $10,000 gift.

During the dedication service and alluding to a deluge of rain that fell that day CEO Gary Wilson said, “Anitia’s gift to the Auxiliary made this pavilion possible.  I want you to know this pavilion has been baptized.”

Wilson continued, “Last year we got off to a slow start because of the bad weather, and we did not recover throughout the week.  Anita did not want this to happen again.  She said if someone would build the building, she would help pay for it.”

Mrs. Rannells was a member of the Romney First United Methodist Church.  She was also a member of the Board of Trustees and was recognized for her meritorious service to the organization.
